restaurants.ie is built from open and licensed data, combined with our own first-party research. Nothing here is taken from another directory. Several of the sources below require attribution as a condition of use, and this page provides it.
OpenStreetMap
Base venue records, geographic coordinates and opening hours come from OpenStreetMap — © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database Licence (ODbL). Map imagery on venue pages is served by OpenStreetMap under the same attribution.
Overture Maps Foundation
Contact-detail enrichment (phone, website, email, social profiles) draws on the Overture Maps places dataset, used under the Community Data Licence Agreement – Permissive, Version 2.0.
Food Standards Agency
Food hygiene ratings shown on Northern Ireland venues come from the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme, published by the Food Standards Agency and used under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Ratings are point-in-time and carry the date of the inspection they describe — always check the live FSA record for the current rating. There is no equivalent public register in the Republic of Ireland, so the absence of a rating on a Republic venue reflects that gap, not the venue.
Company registers
Registered-company details are drawn from the Companies Registration Office (Ireland) Company Records dataset, used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence, and from UK Companies House free company data.
Our own research
Booking and ordering systems, published email addresses, social profiles and some phone numbers are gathered by our own crawler, which reads venues' own public websites, respects robots.txt and identifies itself honestly. Accreditation records — such as Coeliac Society of Ireland catering-trained venues — are curated by hand.
